The Final Frontier at Your Fingertips: Explore Space From the Comfort of Your Own Home!

Summer is the perfect time for outdoor, night-time planet viewing and stargazing, but you can only get so close with a telescope or binoculars.

Fortunately for us though, NASA has developed some great websites and apps to help us learn about Space!

You can explore 3-D simulations of Earth, the Solar System, and Exoplanets through NASA's Eyes, which allows you to see Space from the perspective of many of NASA's robotic spacecraft. You will need to download an app to view the simulations, but the app is free. NASA even lets you tune into the Deep Space Network to see which robots are sending information to NASA right now!

Also, see what the total solar eclipse (August 21, 2017) will look like from Space and from some specific places on Earth!

If you're in the mood for games, visit NASASpacePlace to study Earth and Space through fun online activities.

Want to get some basic background information on the Universe, galaxies, and our particular solar system?

FCPL has you covered.

Navigate over to FCPL's Homework Center and click on "Astronomy" to access Rader's Cosmos4Kids, a set of easy-to-follow introductions to the planets and related topics filled with cool facts.

Last but not least, have I mentioned you can find oodles of exciting Space-focused books and DVDs/BluRays in FCPL's catalog? You can turn up quite a few things just by searching for "Space," but slightly different results come up for "solar system," "planets," and "constellations," and those certainly aren't the only keywords you can use. Maybe you want to learn more about "space exploration," or the "Cosmos" (the order of the Universe), for example.

Anyhow, I hope you enjoy exploring these various resources as much as I did. Have a stellar week!
